WHAT IS INVOLVED AND AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Otoplasty is intended for those who have large and protruding prominent ears. Prominent ear surgery or Otoplasty surgery normally reforms the cartilage to lie closer to the side of the head thus obtaining the the normal good looking orientation of the ear.
Prominent ears is congenital problem and it is normally effecting your self confidence and appearance since birth .The prominent ear is very common problem and normally effect about 1-2% of population . The main clinical significance of prominent ears is the aesthetic problems, which can lead to a reduced quality of life, reduced self-esteem, social avoidance behavior and poor performance in school. To correct it we should have realistic goals and expectations before undergoing surgery.Dr. Asif will examine your ears, or your child’s ears, during your initial consultation and discuss how Otoplasty can achieve an improvement and meet your realistic goals and expectations.
WHAT ANAESTHETIC IS USED AND WHAT HOSPITAL STAY IS REQUIRED?
This procedure is most commonly performed under a local anaesthetic, but can be carried out under general anaesthesia at your request. This procedure is performed in a day surgery setting in our esteemed Cosmagic Plastic Surgery Clinic and you will be able to return to the comfort of your own home 1 hour after completion of the surgery.
WILL THIS PROCEDURE LEAVE SCARS?
Dr. Asif Bhatti undergoes regular training on the most current surgical methods and will choose the best known method used in world to make sure that incision is well hidden. Otoplasty incisions work well and lies within the natural contours at the back of the ears and normally heals well.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD?
Normally otoplasty surgery will lead to uneventful recovery and you could go back to work in 2-3 days with your turban dressing on. After 1st dressing and confirmation of the final result Dr. Asif will recommend using a head band that protects the ears for at least 6-8 weeks post-surgery. You will be given post-surgery instructions to follow and if you have any questions, please speak to Dr. Asif Bhatti or his clinic staff.
